17a Curzon Street
IMA were appointed as Architects by CLI-Dartriver in 2024 to design the refurbishment of 17a Curzon Street, an 8 storey office building in Mayfair London.
The building originally designed by the Architects Chapman Taylor was built in the early 1960’s as a car showroom on the ground floor and basement, with 6 storeys of office above, all accessed by a single lift and staircase.
The building has undergone several phases of cosmetic alterations in the intervening years.
The ground floor car showroom has been converted to a modest reception and offices, whilst the upper floors have undergone partial refurbishment.
The building is framed in reinforced concrete with Portland Limestone cladding and original Critall steel windows with back- painted glass spandrel panels. The rear elevations are simply painted concrete with steel framed windows. There are a series of flat roof terraces as the building steps back to the rear. The single staircase is expressed on the front façade behind safety glazing.
The proposed works include the partial restoration of the façade at ground level, the removal of the original car lift and remodelling of the entrance. The single glazing will be replaced at all levels with high performance bronze curtain walling.
All upper office floors and common parts are to be refurbished with new facilities throughout.
The scheme received planning approval fro Westminster City Council in 2025 and works begin in 2026 with staggered completion dates.
